Bonaire 2021
The Donkey Divers Return To Bonaire
After several cancelations and over two years away from our favorite dive destination, we are returning to the island of Bonaire for a two week visit of stress-free diving. We originally scheduled this vacation for June of 2020. When that was cancelled, we tried rescheduling a couple of times but Bonaire did not open up to American tourists until May of 2021 and the first time that everyone in our group could reschedule our trip was the middle of November. That is when college football is just getting interesting and it required me being out of the country for last 3 Saturdays of the regular season, including THE GAME.
But it was worth it. We had a great trip. I got in 54 dives and we dove some sites that we had never dove before. All of our dives were shore dives. We didn't make any boat dives. Since several sites can only be accessed via boat, that did limit our selection but we were still able to experience 34 different sites. I have made over 600 dives on Bonaire since my first trip in 1997 but this trip I managed to dive 5 sites that I had never dove before.
We had 8 divers and one snorkeler in our group. Not everyone made as many dives as I did. It was a vacation, not a competition but I did win. Not everyone likes to make night dives. Some entries looked a little challenging to some, some wanted to spend some time out of the water to enjoy the sun or beach, nap, shop or explored other topside attractions. We didn't make any night dives the last few days due to box jellyfish in the area at that time.

One of the things I like about Bonaire is that you can dive any time you want and as much as you want.
We usually eat breakfast and lunch in the room to save time and get in more dives.
